Orkney,
Westray and its neighbouring Island of Papa Westray provide a truly
wonderful, relaxing and very interesting combination.
Westray should be an essential part of your Orkney adventure - enjoy its
unique flavour - an easy add-on to your Orkney Holiday for as many nights
as you wish.
You can travel to Westray any day, catching a morning or afternoon ferry
from Kirkwall. The voyage out along the old Viking sea route takes just 85
minutes. Westray is sprinkled with wonderfully atmospheric locations and
breathtaking cliff scenery.
We think of Cleaton House, a family run hotel with six bedrooms, as one of
Scotsell's 'hidden gems' - comments from previous guests are full of praise
- do stay a few days.
Noup Head RSPB Reserve is second only to St. Kilda in terms of number of
breeding seabirds, especially between April and July. Seals are plentiful
around Westray. Local crafts include knitwear, jewellery, painting and wood
turning. Hand made Orkney strae-backed chairs are a Westray speciality.
The Heritage Centre displays local history.
You'll be sad to leave when it's time to sail back to Kirkwall, but the
good news is you're still in Orkney! Stay a while longer or catch the
afternoon ferry from Stromness to Scrabster.
